SmugMug > popular all-time > 11/8/09 Just a fun shot of a Sand Hill Crane silhouette. Shot at the Jasper Pulaski State Park in Indiana. They are migrating and the current count is just over 10,000 birds.
SmugMug > popular all-time > 10-26-2009 - "Liftoff" Part of the joy of living in NE Ohio is the raking of leaves and the subsequent jumping into the piles. "It's a family tradition" to quote Hank. They look forward to it as soon as they see leaves on the ground. Yesterday was a perfect opportunity for them to hone their leaf-pile-jumping skills.
SmugMug > popular all-time > October 23, 2009 - "Abandoned House"

Another shot from the Mormon Row Historic District near Jackson, Wyoming. This place must attract thousands of photographers each year. Note how the windows have black inserts to prevent reflections (or breakage?). On the other hand, the sunrise reflected in the windows might have added some more interest to this photo.

SmugMug > popular all-time > 09/09/09 - Ophelia the Barred Owl
I just felt like Ophelia would be left out if I didn't post her picture today:-) I did shoot 200 cardinal pictures yesterday...a female and a male juvenille, but it was low light and through a window and just not the quality I want to share. I also took a few abstract glass shots last night. But, in the end, Ophelia won the POTD slot. I believe the rescue folks said she had both wing and vision issues.

Yes, I shoot all my pics with a Canon Powershot S3...a point and shoot. I have a Canon SX10 IS which I pull out on occassion, but I much prefer the S3 for sharpness of detail. There are a number of reasons I use the S3: 1. Weight of the camera on my neck/back and arms is less. 2. Fear of messing up the threads on real lenses. 3. Cost. 4. I do some crazy things with my camera like take canoe rides with a 4 and 6 year old. 5. The flip LCD which I use OFTEN is a must have for me. You know, the S3 just works for me:-) Hopefully you won't think less of my pictures now that you know... I wasn't hiding it per say, but I wasn't bragging about it either;-)

Thanks for all your wonderful comments on the last two bird pictures. As always, I thank you for checking out my POTD. There are a lot of great pics on SmugMug, and I enjoy looking at everyone else's pics too!

HAGD,
Maryann
SmugMug > popular all-time > 08.01.09 = "Mom! Kris is doing it again!!!"
Yes, I used to pester my sisters growing up. I was the one, "I'm not touching you..." But growing up, my mother "made us" get along. If we got in a fight, she would make us sit on the step until we worked it out. We were never allowed to stay mad at each other. Today, we are each other's best friends. I talk to at least one or two of my sisters every day. I love you Kelly, Kim and you too Kasey!

"I smile because you are my sister, I laugh because there is nothing you can do about it!"

day 365

me

today marks the completion of my first year on the dailies.

i've spent a lot of time today thinking about what this 365 project has meant to me, what i've gotten out of it and what i will carry on with me.....

for me this "project" started out as one thing and morphed into a completely different one. i started it with the intent to get into the practice of shooting every day and hopefully learn something along the way, but it quickly became my photo blog. it enabled me to share not only my photos but a piece of me as a person. it also gave me a greater appreciation of just how personal my photos are to me.

i've learned that nothing in the entire world gives me more satisfaction that capturing a laugh, pure emotion, a personality or love. while i still prefer to keep it simple and unprocessed, playing w/ a shot or too can be fun too.

i take my photography seriously but really try not to take myself all that seriously. i've come across a few people this year who took it all waaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously and, for me, took so much joy out of the process.

i've met some really great people here, who have only enriched this experience for me. i appreciate you.

everyone has room to grown and i think i know a few ways i want to push myself. i'm going to work on those in Year 2.

on a side note is it gross that i used a pot of two day old coffee to make an iced coffee for myself? just checking....

oh and John, on day 80 something you asked how long i could keep up my one word titles. i'm still going.... :0)
